Adrian wrote It is driven by Kevin Kline in a few scenes very aggressively off-road. Good footage of this E3 being pushed to it's handling limits.

Don't believe was a US-spec BMW(lacks side-markers),but a 2500/2800 CKD-made by locally-based-in South-Africa's plant of BMW in Rosslyn-Pretoria into Seventies

PS Other BMW assembled in South-Africa into Seventies were:

--1804/2004--an hybrid got mixing 02-series engines on a 02-locally-modified coque that had got 2 doors of more(1804=1.8 lt.,4 doors)and a front nose with quad round headlamps, while of two units of European 02-Series(were in 1974 the replacement of older BMW 1800 SA/2000 SA--ex-Glas 1700 body with BMW 02-Series engines)

Quite correct, datsunz - I'm impressed! There was also a top-of-range 3000S (a geriatric teacher of mine had one - what a waste!), which I suspect this is, looking at the little of what one can see on the bootlid.

Looks to me like the 1804 Cheetah. Built in Rhodesia, a car builder manufactured the Cheetah body and put the 1804, 2002 & 2004 BMW engines in their body. This deal worked out well all round expense-wise. It was sold throughout Sub-Saraha Africa, but mainly to South Africa. I owned a green 1972 BMW Cheetah like this one - my first car. I blew the motor because it lent itself to a heavy foot and I didn't keep my eye on the oil levels. Cost me A LOT to repair, but was worth every cent. Excellent power-to-weight ratio which as an under 25-year old, I exploited to the full. Poor car!

sorry, but i must change the car typ in "unknown [E3]" (think its a 2500)
I don't can find any BMW 1800SA/2000SA, BMW 1804/2004 or BMW Cheetah on the pics :(

(BMW 1800SA/2000SA, BMW 1804/2004 and BMW Cheetah base all on the Glas 1700 with 4cyl. BMW Engine)

The built in flag should also be deleted, since it's now unknown.

As long as BMW remains as the Maker, the Germany flag automatically appears.

It's a German car and a BMW [E3] anyways, it's just the question, if it's a ZA-assembled version. I thought before, that the [E3] was also made there, but Ralph must know it better.

1968-71 for pillar vents. I think this is a flipped photo - grille has script badge for 2800 which should be on the other side - RHD first appeared in UK Aug 69. So 69/70 2800.
