This is one of the Ministerial cars from the Thatcher era, the one she left Downing Street in. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GgAkMeB-_c Link to "www.guardian.co.uk" This is actually a Daimler, notice the fluting on the boot lid handle at 5:50 in the video. F496PYT is not on the DVLA database but F = 1988-89. Is this a Daimler Sovereign, Six (it won't be Double Six because the XJ40 didn't get a V12 engine until 1993) or just Daimler? -- Last edit: 2010-06-12 23:54:36 |

Do you happen to know of what special safety features this car had? I mean about armor and those types of things. |

No idea, really. It was probably bulletproof. All the recent Prime Minister's Jags have been armoured (costing more than twice the price of the standard models), but not to the extent of the US Presidents' tank-like Cadillacs. Jaguar did make a special model called the Daimler Majestic, which was armoured and had a higher roof, which was used by John Major and Tony Blair and can be seen in The Queen: /vehicle_145309-Daimler-Majestic-XJ40.html (footage of Blair on his way to Buckingham Palace after winning the 1997 General Election) -- Last edit: 2010-06-13 00:38:37 |

F496PYT eventually comes up on http://www.webuyanycar.com/ as 1988/F DAIMLER SALOON 3.6 4dr Auto. 2nd time in a few days that this site has found details which do not show on DVLA. Model is therefore simply 3.6 (not Sovereign or other title). |
