If its the one I'm thinking of it was used in a jungle expedition soon after the launch to show how rugged this new model was, and is actually a very early 1970 model. However, as theres no number plate and I'm used to seeing it covered in expedition stickers I can't be sure its the same vehicle. |

Indeed, the 1972 Darien Gap expedition! There were two Range Rovers with some upgrades for off-roading. It was part of a larger Trans-American expedition going from Anchorage, Alaska to Cape Horn, Chile to drum up some publicity for coming Range Rover, as British Leyland was keenly eyeing the US market. The full length of the trip was six months, three of which was spent inside the Darien Gap where the jungle was so thick that by the 16th day in the jungle, they had only managed 30 miles before all four differentials across both cars gave out and caused a 26-day halt due to the oversized tires getting their treads full of mud. Here's an excellent video on it! Link to "www.youtube.com" |
