I wonder when the South-African assembly plant started. Only 584 1750s were built before the 2660 2000s in 1972 and then during 1974-1976 a series of 2000 with automatic transmission.

Alfa Romeos were assembled in S.A. as early as 1960, but I'm unsure which company assembled them initially. By the mid-1960s they were being assembled by CDA (Car Distributors & Assemblers) in East London, which also assembled Renault, Jaguar and Mercedes, but it chose to concentrate on the latter, so the other makes found new assembly partners. Datsun-Nissan assembled Alfas from sometime around 1969 at its plant in Pretoria until Alfa opened its own plant at Brits, near Pretoria in 1974, which was set up to manufacture the Alfetta and Alfasud. I'm unsure whether or not Alfa moved production of all products to Brits upon its opening, or continued to have the older models assembled by Nissan. Nissan, by the way, also pressed all of Alfa's body panels for the locally-manufactured models.
