Okay, Britons. Who's been manufacturing these cabs for more than half a century? |

The actual manufacturer was 'Carbodies' in Coventry. ![]() Austin gave them the contract to build their London cabs in about 1948. By about 1974 they were completely independant and selling them as 'Carbodies' FX4 and continued to do this until they were re-named LTI (London Taxis International) in 1985. I worked with them in the early 1980s when they were developing a replacement based on the Range Rover but it never got approval. They were completely separate from Austin-Morris/BMC/Leyland. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austin_FX4 I certainly believe from sometime in the 1980s the FX4 were all 'Carbodies' or 'LTI' and not 'Austin'. -- Last edit: 2006-04-09 19:10:44 |

Yes, this is not an Austin. It is a much later LTI Fairway. Probably early '90s although the number plate is blurred. |
