This "hardtop" actually does more harm to the appearance of the car than the infamous 70s US-spec rubber-bumpers did.

At the time the car was built only the open topped sports car was available. The MGB GT was introduced in October 1965. Registration 971WHN is approximately from June 1964. (???XHN series started in July 1964.)

I agree this hardtop always looked ugly to me but many owners must have liked its looks (or advantages) at the time. Also wasn't the hard top removable allowing different summer-winter use?
