![]() ![]() ![]() This seems to be quite a plush version of the Range Rover, notice the wood trim and the wood steering wheel. The letters DDB on the numberplate presumably stand for Denis Dimbleby Bagley (Richard E. Grant) who owns this car. This Range Rover also seems to have a canvas roof. Another Range Rover; registration D964XPD, a 1986 3.5 EFi: ![]() ![]() -- Last edit: 2012-07-29 22:13:03 |

I think this has been mildly upgraded by someonelike Wood & Picket or Glenfrome or one of the many others who used to bling these. Very shiny show-off wood inside and the grille running across the headlamps, plus the canvas roof. The rear window sticker in 3rd thumb is probably not a helpful clue. |

Its a Wood & Pickett "Sheer Rover", a very rare and expensive Range Rover coachbuilt, lots went to the Middle East. The keys feature (which is not that obvious with the pictures you have supplied) is the grill, it is V shaped on the side profile, not flat like the normal ones. Edward http://www.lr-mad.co.uk/en/13-land-rover/range-rover Wood and Pickett of London was founded in 1947 by Bill Wood and Less Pickett, two men who had worked for London-based Hooper Coachbuilders in the 1930s and so learned their skills from one of the finest coachbuilding companies in the world. Wood and Pickett became famous in the 1960s and 1970s for their Margrave Mini conversions, which were bespoke conversions of the Austin Mini. By the mid 1970s the Range Rover was Wood and Pickett's next subject of choice and soon became their most important asset, their conversions being particularly popular in the Arab countries. When the Range Rover was launched it was only available in a 2-door version and the most luxurious version was still very sober. Wood and Pickett many versions, body conversions to convertible (both two and four door), stretched with extra rows of seats, six-wheelers, specialized hunting cars and in the years when Land Rover didn't offer the Range Rover as a four door, a four door conversion. The lack of luxury was compensated for by adding sumptuous interiors with Recaro seats, leather upholstery, bars and all kinds of other luxury items. The complete cars made by Wood and Pickett were called "Sheer Rover". Wood and Pickett continued to produce Range Rover conversions until the late 1980s. The Sheer Rover conversions |

Indeed it does have this: ![]() ![]() Thanks for that info, tedzwedz. I always thought this looked like something a little more than the average old-style Range Rover (which has become more of a luxury car through the 90s and 2000s), nice choice for this character, a high-paid advertising yuppie in the Thatcher-era. -- Last edit: 2012-07-29 23:07:20 |
