I am always bemused by cars like this- nicely researched here by Sunbar. It doubtles started life as a hansom 105 sports saloon, only to be re-bodied in this style and fitted with the larger engine also. Precious little of the original car remains, and the new body is in the fashion of cars built five to seven years before this one was. It is a cheaply made fabric covered tourer and does not even have doors. Yet, by virtue of being a open car it is deemed worth about twice as much as a fine, and genuine, sports saloon of the time would be. I'm pleased that today this sort of butchery is becoming less common. It is just a cheap way for the people who indulge in it to make a lot of money over and above the cost of the conversion (because 'restoration' it certainly is not). -- Last edit: 2010-03-25 17:13:59 |
