Ca serait pas plutôt une Lincoln Continental Town Car? |

It's a coupe, so possibly it's a 1977-1979 Lincoln Continental Mark V. (Town Cars are sedans) |

It's not anything from the Mark series. I think it's just a Continental two-door. -- Last edit: 2010-01-06 01:06:27 |

Smog check: Continental or Town Car? |
◊ 2010-01-06 02:40 |
Well, we know for sure that it's a 1979 model. However, based on the differing results of the smog test, I would guess that it's a Lincoln Continental Town Coupe. The fact that it is listed on the site as both a continental and a town car might imply this. Still, I'm not entirely sure because I don't know too much about Town Cars or even Continentals before 1980. -- Last edit: 2010-01-06 02:40:53 |

1979 Continental Town coupe. This is the correct spelling, 'coupe' is lower case. |

Agreed, 1979 Continental 2-door w/the Town Coupé package (note "Town Coupé" badges on C-pillar). California DMV couldn't care less if it's a Continental Town Coupé, Continental Town Car, or Continental w/o the Town package. Someone at the testing center punched in what they're told the car is - and that's that. Amusing that it failed its 2008 test; looks like someone doesn't know how to adjust a Motorcraft 2150 carb. -Kurt -- Last edit: 2010-10-30 08:14:39 |

Perhaps the reason it failed was that some part needs to be replaced and the owner of the car doesn't want to spend that much money on a 30 yr old car. |

That "some part" would be the carburetor, unless the car has more serious issues (cracked intake manifold would do it - most folks would run the carb rich to compensate). These are pretty bulletproof motors though; I'd be surprised if anything serious happened to it in those 9 years. This isn't a '69 Dodge Charger, you know - parts can be had reasonably cheap for the Ford 400's. -Kurt |

Thanks for the info, cudak. |

well that's a little embarrassing. I drive one of those and I love it. |

Nope, the town coupe was in production until 1980. it was basically a two door town car. notice the lack of side vents, porthole window in the vinyl, and it has no spare tire bump in the trunk. I have one exactly like this one only with turbine style rims |

Definately a 79 town coupe, I have one black, dark red leather, moon roof, hidden head lights with the continental logo on the cover,400 modifed SBF 48,000 actual original miles...still runs and drives like a brand new car after 30+ years! |

Correct, the Town Coupe remained in production until 1980, though for clarity's sake, it should be noted that the 1980 version is a Panther-platform car which is essentially a two-door 1980 Town Car (and bears little relation to the '77-79 cars, other than rudimentary styling cues). -Kurt -- Last edit: 2012-11-17 16:39:57 |
