1963 Chevrolet C-30, The truck appears to have the wrong rims on the front, they look like 3/4 or 1 ton single-wheel type rims as opposed to "Bud" type wheels -- Last edit: 2006-03-27 05:31:30 |

I agree, firebird86. Plus, the 1964's didn't have that panoramic windshield. This is strictly a 1963. |

A 1963 Chevrolet C-30 tow truck driven by Joey Aresco character Niles in the episode Crack-Up to hurt Grossie, and almost Ponch. Niles uses it to hurt Grossie, and later on towards the end to try and hurt Ponch. |

Why not a ¾-ton C-20 as tow-truck? Towing capacity is not related to the nominal rating, and dual rear wheels were also an option for the 1963+ C-20... -- Last edit: 2015-04-28 03:26:14 |

It is probably a mongrel or junkyard special where they replace the original front suspension from 1-ton series to 3/4-ton series suspension system Please note the bed body is designed for the rear dual wheel system. Please remember that the tow truck is about 14 years old at the time of filming. |

Please note that I said in the previous comment that dual rear wheels were also optional for the C-20 models of that generation of C-Series, so this clue can't be used to differentiate the models As written in the (already linked) 1963 brochure: I don't say it is a C-20 and not a C-30. I just say that nothing in these pictures really helps to identify a model over the other. -- Last edit: 2015-04-28 22:10:44 |

Wow, that is new to me I'll try to dig this up at my Dammann book to see what he has to say. -- Last edit: 2015-05-03 02:28:45 |
