GL model, either that or base model with Sport Appearance Package. How do we know this is a 93? There were no changes in 93 from the 92 line. |

Oh and did you know that the Ford Tempo was Ford's 6th most popular car in 1992? Or that, today Ford's most popular sedan/coupe is the Fusion? And the Fusion is the Tempo's succesor? The Tempo family tree is: Ford Maverick/Mercury Comet (1970-1977, coupe)>Ford Fairmont/Mercury Zephyr (1978-1983, coupe, sedan, wagon)>Ford Tempo/Mercury Topaz (1984-1994 coupe, sedan)>Ford Contour/Mercury Mystique (1995-2000, coupe and sedan)> Ford Fusion/Mercury Milan/Lincoln Zephyr/Mark Z for 07'( 2006- coupes and sedans). The Maverick, Tempo and Fusion were and are best selling vehicles of their time/catagory. Distant Tempo family relations (shared the same platform and are products of Ford Motor Company) are: Ford Escort, Ford EXP, Mercury Lynx, Ford/Mercury Cougar, Mazda Mazda6, Ford Edge (CUV for 07') and Lincoln Mark X (CUV, related to Edge). The new, 2006 Ford Fusion sedan/coupe (released in October 2005 as a 2006 model) is quite recognizable as a succesor of a Tempo/Topaz: 1)squared headlights with side turning signals, 2)same body, 2-door and 4-door, 3)same class, entry level, 4)same grill as 1988-1992 Tempo, chrome 3-bar grill with 2-bar grill under bumper, 5)Similar tail lights as 1984-1987 Topaz sedan 6)they seat the same amount of people, 5 and 7 they sit on the same platform (actually, the Fusion/Milan/Zypher sit on the platform that replaced the Tempo/Topaz platform). |

The Contour, Mystique, Fusion, Milan, and Zephyr doesn't come as a coupe. They're based on the Mazda 6 platform which doesn't really replace the Tempo. The Fusion, Milan, and Zephyr are midsizes so they replace the Taurus. The Five Hundred also replaces the Taurus, but it's closer in size to the Crown Vic than the Taurus. Sure there are similarities, but I wouldn't say the Fusion/Milan are Tempo/Topaz replacements. |

They may not be Tempo/Topaz replacements on paper, but I have heard them called this millions of times. Tempo/topaz.com claims they are, wikipedia's article on the Mercury Milan claims it is a replacment for the Contour and Taurus, wikipedia also says that the Fusion platform replaced the Contour platform (tempo/contour platform ended in 2000 and the Fusion platform started in 01') and they have many similarities. Just like the Tempo/Topaz were always compacts on PAPER, but they were refered to as compacts from 84'-87' and mid-size from 88'-94'. They are also competing in the same class, the mid-szie entry level sedan. Unlike the Taurus which was more int the full-size sedan and wagon class, the Fusion was less likely a replacement for the Taurus because it doesn't offer a wagon body. |

The Contour isn't even built on the Tempo platform. The Tempo/Topaz and Contour/Mystique aren't midsizes. They're compact cars throughout the years until their demise. Would you say the Taurus is a full size? No. And even though the Fusion doesn't offer a wagon, it's still replacing the lower end of the Taurus. |

I agree that the Contour replaces the Tempo... but after 2000 Ford got out of the compact segment when they discontinued the Contour. The Fusion is the Taurus replacement. I have always heard it listed as such and never as a Tempo replacement. The closest thing to a Tempo replacement is the Focus sedan as that was used to combine both the Escort and Contour lineup. |
