I think there's a Chrysler New Yorker in the background.

Well, we just have to remember that this was considered an "old" car when the movie came out. It'd be like a 1994 model today.

Earlier on, I pegged the car as a 70, the reason being is the front fender arches look different than those from later models, that and Olds had done a facelift on the car, well, almost every year they changed how it looked.

Notice how the wheels change on the car when it is driven onto the lot and after it is crushed.

I doubt the dealer would have crusher onsite and would do it that quickly.

Pretty sure there is no real dealership with an on-site crusher.

Besides, doing that is illegal, since Clark hadn't traded in his car yet and was unsatisfied with what they brought him.

The vista cruiser clark "trades" in dosen't look the one they crush because if you look at the thumbnail it looks like a junker and the one clark "trades" in looks to be in really nice condition.

He doesn't trade it in. He lets the dealership evaluate and appraise it for the trade-in.

I'd like to see somebody re-do this car in the Family Truckster style -- eight headlights and all that.

That's right, When Clark and Russ first drive the Vista Cruiser onto the lot, It has regular Olds hubcaps, But after it's flattened by the crusher, It has Pontiac Rallye mag wheels.

They should've kept the Vista Cruiser, although it probably had issues which is why they were trading it in prior to the long road trip. I'd love to see an alternate version of this movie where they take the Vista Cruiser instead of the Truckster. These cars were beautiful, practically living rooms on wheels.

Yes, that thing hit me when I watched this movie first time. Now when this kind of car dealers came to Poland I'm prtty sure there's something wrong with that operaton , in Poland no one wuoldn't bother with crushing Hellen' old car, thay'd press it in to some "Janusza" ( polish slang name for tipical fool), as a ocasion "German cried when he sold it!

I feel like they probably got footage of an old car getting crushed and just bought one to match it. They probably also dragged the crushed one over as a prop
