Anyone else notice how busted-up this 928 looks in this top photo? Notice the foglamp is mising, and the air-dam seemed warped as does the hood. Obviously a junker 928 used for this drowning scene. Amazing sounding car. Man does it howl!

I always remebered it being silver, but upon my recent viewing, I noticed it looks more gold/champagne-colored in the daylight.

An abridged quotation of the article at http://www.928registry.org/Risky-Business-928-Excellence.htm:

928registry.org wrote …there were four different 928s used for filming, as well as two more cars used in the film's post-production phase.

… RB 928, as portrayed in the film, is a 1981 Platinmetallic 928 with a five-speed manual transmission, the primary 928 used for filming in real life was a Platinum Metallic 1981 928, but with an automatic transmission, … Since it had 15-inch instead of offset 16-inch wheels, it was only used in scenes shot above the car's beltline. It was used in all of the driving scenes as well as the chase scene, which took its toll on the car.

The second of two 928s used for driving scenes was a 1979 928 with a five-speed manual transmission, 16-inch alloy wheels, and an all-gold interior. …Since it was a pre-1981 model, it didn't come with factory Platinum Metallic skin, and thus had to be repainted to match the others. … can be seen primarily in driving scenes with wide shots where the whole car is in view, as well as in portions of the chase scene.

The third RB 928 was used for just one scene. It is the car Rebecca DeMornay's character, Lana, knocked out of gear just before it began to roll towards Lake Michigan with the keys locked inside. This, too, was a 1979 five-speed 928, but it was unlike the main five-speed driver in that it had a cream-colored interior.

The fourth and final RB928 used for filming was … dumped into Lake Michigan. …started life as a brown 1979 928 automatic with 16-inch Phone Dials… was re-sprayed in Platinum Metallic to match the others ... To comply with state pollution regulations as well as to "preserve" the drivetrain and electronics, the dump car was gutted. The missing V8 is obvious on film, as the front ride height is several inches higher than normal when it teeters on the rickety wooden pier…

The fifth and sixth RB928s were used in the film's post-production phase. Car number five was either a 1978 or 1979 928, though it is not clear. It didn't appear in the film, as it had a sunroof … was the car used in the film's movie-poster photo session.

… Johnsen discovered a sixth car - sort of: "The sounds dubbed for the cars were from a 928 in California…”

For now, he has put the sole known RB928 survivor on display in the Forney Museum of Trans-portation in Denver while he finishes up his documentary.

So, I guess it would be best to label this as a 1981 model. But based on the main image it is a 1979, so maybe it would be better to omit the year and list it just as "Porsche 928".

This one is okay because it's a water-cooled Porsche.

Auction blurb for the 1979 928 - Sept 2021. "Hero car from Paul Brickman's 1983 film Risky Business. Multiple 928s were used during the production of the film, but this car was the featured vehicle and received the brunt of screen time and seat time from the cast. It is one of three cars driven on set, and one of two cars used during the film's signature chase scene that culminated in Tom Cruise, looking straight into the camera, declaring the German carmaker's slogan "Porsche. There is no substitute"...... Originally painted white, the 928 was refinished in gold for the movie. Following the film's production, the car returned to California, where it was discovered and returned to its original screen appearance. This 928 has been featured at numerous museums and displays...... Additionally, this 928 was the subject of the documentary "The Quest for the RB928 (Risky Business 928)" in which filmmaker Lewis Johnsen chronicles his journey to track down this particular 928. It was in this documentary that Risky Business producer Jon Avnet stated that he taught Tom Cruise how to drive a stick shift in this very car."
