I´ts a bit late. But yes. The Ford Excursion was officially sold in Norway, where this photo is from. Large American Pick-ups and "S"UVs (I don't see any sport in a Ford Excursion, thoug) where very popular in Norway from the mid 1990s to the early 2000s. Norway has taxation on cars based on their weight, horsepower, displacement, emissions and cost. making cars very expensive. the larger the car the more expensive. But american SUVs and so on where so heavy that they became whats here known as Light Trucks. As long as you registerd the car to have a maximum total weight between 3501 and 7000 kg you got away with a fraction of the taxes, making a Ford Excursion cost the same as a mildly specekd Mercedes E-class. But in the mid 2000s the taxations where alterd and you could no longer register something made as a car as a truck. The direct spesefication of the new taxations i don't remeber, but all in all, American SUVs and Pick-ups quadrupled in price over night, and thereby ending the marked for them over here. American trucks where not taken into the country by the same car deales as other american brands, or rather Ford, as the only American brand in the norwegian market did not import the Excurtion themselves. That was done by smaller specialists that imported SUVs and Pick-Ups from all the big three. Where Dodge Ram seem to have been the most popular Pick-Up, and the Ford F-series the lieast. Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe was the most popuar SUVs with the Excurtion as a good nuber three. the License plate indicates the following : AD = Car was first licensed in Sarpsborg. Eastern Norway. 9202 = Just a number. 2 = car was licesed in February. The license plate does not tell you wich year the car was licensed. But the app "Bil og Henger" tells me that this in fact a 2002 V10 5 seated Light Truck. It was last aprooved for the road in April 2013 and the license plates was removed in May 2014. It is reasonable to bealieve that this spesific car has been owned by the Oslo Police since new. |
