It is not a Suburban .It is a De Soto Custom taxicab on the long wheelbase chassis of 139 1/2 inches ( series S-11) of 1946-1948.The DeSoto Suburban was a special series on the same chassis featuring a third full seat,a roof luggage rack ( first all metal and later metal on wood) and two-tone paint finish.Rear seats could be folded down offering a generous cargo space.Production run of the Suburban for the period was 7500 units .Many saw service as airport limousines. |
