This one does not look very Italian and quite modern for a scene supposed to take place in the post ww I Italy.As far as I can see the grille logo appears Austin and I'd rather go for a ca 1930 Austin 12/4 taxicab. |

Yes it is a Strachan bodied Austin 12/4 Low-loader taxicab manufactured between 1934 and 1938. Many film companies, unable (for whatever reason) to obtain a period vehicle of the correct age will often 'make do' with what they can get, and sometimes they do get it horribly wrong. I watched a T/V production a week or so ago entitled 'Stone of Destiny' set around 1950 (ish). The cars used as 'Police Cars' were 'OK' but why did they superimpose a modern police siren instead of the correct 'bell'? - spoilt it for me! Jim Stringer (Vintage Austin Register) |
