Looks like the red hatchback sedan is some Simca 1307/1308 or something.

And the other car is a Rover [P6]... But what is the thing in the foreground?

Let's think about it. Something smaller, probably Franch made (it was typical French, that the front hood opens from the back side, except BMW and ... the K 70 :D ), and it has a triangle-window in the driver's door. Or a Fiat? Fiat has IMHO also this hood-construction.

So a smaller car with triangle-door-windows. This should be possible to identify, or?

The front hood opens from the back side is not "french car". Was the case for Simca (because of its italian roots?) and Renault, but Citroen and Peugeot never opt for this system (Except Pininfarina made 404 & 504).

For me its more "Italian" all the more as there is a triangle window

I know the Ford Fiesta Mk1 has such a hood. But not with this louvres...
From the windshielwipers we can see it is a very basic model and not very luxious car...

Alfa Romeo Alfasud looks similar for the air inlets and hood shape...

edit:

but not I'm not certain its exactly the same. Without seeing a better image I think it could be different?
