If a 3800 tow truck, then a Chassis + cab with 3803 internal code, not a pickup. And from the 1955-59 Task-Force trucks line.

Why not tow truck?

That was rather for heavy duty vehicles
However the other pages for Mater list it that way:
/vehicle_350288-Chevrolet-3800-1956.html
/vehicle_38311-Chevrolet-3800-1956.html
/vehicle_65525-Chevrolet-3800-1956.html
(I'll update the model at the same time)

Most certainly because I forgot that this class was available :D
(But it doesn't change the 3803 code. If a 3800 truck...)

To be honest, I love that character. But I really do not like trying to guess on which accurate vehicles cartoons ones are based. However I read too much weird things in the linked pages, so maybe Mater is worth an attempt for a better identification.

/!\ This is a real long post, with lot of links, pictures and (some) specs. So do not click on the "spoiler" box if you don't want to see/read all of this, just read the conclusion below it :D

• Chevrolet?
Some people apparently agree with the Pixarcars wiki saying Matter is a "a 1951 International Harvest (sic) L-170 truck with elements of a mid-1950s Chevrolet". As I'm not the only one to use pictures related search engines, I wonder how such a joke (it is one, isn't it?) can go on:
[Image: 6042583085_806c055534_n.jpg] [Image: 13933068421_5a9fe967ce_n.jpg] [Image: 5855640733_a1a96f3752_n.jpg]
(1955 Chevrolet 4100 Tow truck vs. "disguised" -1951 ?-International Harvester L-170 one

For me, Mater is more likely a kind of squeezed Chevrolet, but not an International Harvester. Even with make-up. And even more when it recovers its hood.

(01:46:23 - End credits)

For the record, there are a lot of contenders for Mater's origin:

And so on... :D

• 3800 or..?
It has dual rear wheels, so it can't indeed be less than a ¾-ton 3800 model. Smaller models were made on pickup basis, anyway, as already seen in the IMCDb. But 3800, 4100 and 6100 trucks had almost the same wheelbase: 135" / 3.43 m for the 3800, shorter 130" / 3.30 for the 2 medium-duty trucks. So the wheelbase is not the clue that may show the difference:
[Image: 1955-56chevrolettf3800.jpg] [Image: 6042583085_806c055534_m.jpg] [Image: 8584207874_847616b42c_m.jpg]
(1955-56 3800 tow truck // 1955 4100 wrecker // 1957 6100 model)

Yet, as I see it, Mater seems indeed not to have the 3800 model small (5" / 13 cm?) body part between the wheel arch and the door, looking then more like a medium-duty truck. Provided that the cartoonists tried to stick more or less close to the reality...

The grille is not visible, so only the wheel rims remain: on light-duty 3800 models, they have numerous holes (8 to 9), but medium- and heavy-duty trucks wheel rims have only a few of them (5 to 6):
[Image: 2479432764_ac54717f1d_m.jpg] [Image: 5067647301_9bab6375b6_n.jpg]
(3800 model - Here is another one // medium-duty model)

As almost all pictures show Mater with 4- to 5-hole wheel rims, and

... As long as we try to find some accuracy in a cartoon car character, all the details seem to claim that Mater is a 1955-56 Chevrolet Task-Force medium-duty (4100 or 6100) model, without any possibility to choose one over the other. Sorry for the 3800 model fans...
