Looks like it's got three circles for the FMR-logo (Fahrzeug- und Maschinenbau GmbH Regensburg) as used in 1956 (after Messerschmitt returned to airplane production). Not much later the logo was changed to three rhombs, because Auto Union regarded the three ring logo too close to their four rings.
