The Jeep J-10, 20, and 30(dually) were produced from 1962-1988. |

they could have avoided the twister by going out of the ditch, and go left |
◊ 2007-06-21 07:14 |
yes...but it is a movie, so they did't....thats the script. |

It shouldv'e landed on its wheels! |
◊ 2007-11-03 01:56 |
Well, it would have been severely damaged, but I get your point. |
◊ 2007-11-17 18:05 |
Not really. Kingston NY has a few of them for a landscaping company and I've seem a few more in town. |
◊ 2007-12-30 19:17 |
They seem to like to stick together. I live in the Northeast and I rarely see any full size jeeps and then one day Ill see 2 or 3 of them. Still, considering 78 was the J-truck peak production year and less then 29,000 of them were made... Id say they are getting on the rare side these days. Especially the nice ones. Search google for 'IFSJA' if you want to learn more about J-10s ![]() |

When they go off road you see the speedometer as gear indicater-PRND21 yet when they hit the bridge and get out you can see a manual shifter also somtimes it has a windsheild visor and somtimes not |
◊ 2008-01-21 08:49 |
Yup, by my guesstimates they used at least 3 trucks for this film. The auto 82 seen in most of the shots is in a car museum (you can find the museum online via google). The truck with the brow/visor (making it a pre 81 truck) was used during the chase, and then of course the manual truck without the visor (post 81) was probably a non-runner used only for the crash into the wooden bridge and the drop into the street. I think I saw somewhere that they also had an 84 model that the studio kept. -- Last edit: 2008-01-21 08:55:02 |

CarKid ◊ 2008-02-10 02:07 |
There were 4 trucks not 3 -- Last edit: 2008-02-13 03:04:33 |
◊ 2008-02-22 21:37 |
Care to elaborate? I said "at least 3" and mentioned I think there was a fourth the studio kept. Did you count a 4th from movie clips? The ones I caught were the 82 used for most of the filming, the 78/79 used in the chase scene, and the 80s manual truck used to crash into the bridge. Where did you see the fourth? |

Theres a maroon one of these with a canopy on the island where I live , it sgot US truck style mirrors lol |
◊ 2008-08-18 22:36 |
This was the sucessor to the Jeep gladiator, correct? |
◊ 2008-08-21 21:15 |
My aunt had one of these trucks...met a similar end though...only in the form of an oak tree lol shame, you never see little jeep trucks anymore. I'd like to have one for a beach cruiser myself |
◊ 2008-11-25 01:16 |
i would have preferred it if they had the dodge get destroyed by the twister in the beginning and used the jeep for the rest of the movie |
◊ 2008-11-25 04:17 |
I would agree with that comment, as my favorite vehicle in this movie is the Jeep. But having the Dodge Ram disposed of early on in the film would defeat the purpose of primary product placement ![]() The Dodge Ram 2500 was portrayed as the film’s "hero-car", so naturally its going to stick around for as long as possible. |
◊ 2008-11-25 21:02 |
I know why the dodge was there i would just prefer it if they drove the jeep for the majority of the movie -- Last edit: 2009-01-25 23:18:49 |

My mom boght me 1979 model when I was 15. I think it had the 360 V8 in it. I loved it, and I to this day love the film. I never got to drive it however. My mom said that the gas mileage was way to low, and whe sold. I did take it on some land her boyfriend had...that truck was a power house! |
◊ 2009-06-23 01:06 |
Yes, but did you see how steep the sides of the ditch got? They would of rolled over sideways and end up getting caught in the tornado. But then again this is only a movie. -- Last edit: 2009-06-26 05:48:13 |

what?!no way!the dodge truck is way better than the jeep j-10!i disagree!the dodge truck is the main truck in this movie!it's the hero truck!oh well, that's your opinion and i respect your opinion, but still i'd prefer the dodge ram over the jeep. lol =) |

Neat Jeep, there are several I see around including a couple with the original style "Rolls"-like grille. I read that the film crew bought this truck in Oklahoma off a used car lot. |
◊ 2011-06-20 03:12 |
There is the same one used in the movie at Stars Cars Museum and i think they said it's the last one. |

The 1982 jeep pickup is a very rare truck i would kill to find one. |
◊ 2012-04-15 22:13 |
This Jeep is a 1982 Jeep J10 Honcho. Looks like it has a lift kit on it. It is on display in Pidgen Forge, Tenessee, USA. |

The standard Jeep yellow at this time would have been Saxon Yellow, though since they prepped multiple trucks for filming, there's no way to know whether that's the exact shade. Interestingly enough, the truck wears 1979-1980 style Honcho graphics, which were available in either orange or blue, depending on the color. Saxon Yellow trucks were available with either color, so it was actually possible to have a yellow truck with blue graphics, as this period photo shows: http://www.flickriver.com/photos/autohistorian/7186778772/ |

I wan to built this jeep in 1/18 scale .. but the color troubles me ... it's either Saxon Yellow ... or Sun Yellow ... hard to tell from one picture to another! |
◊ 2019-01-03 05:02 |
From having owned all three yellows, I'd go with the '81 color "Autumn Gold", As Saxon Yellow was '79-80 only and was more of a cream yellow, and sun yellow was 78 and before and was much brighter. The grill is '81-87, and the Honcho stripes are 1979-80. The cab of the truck shown most is a '81 and later, so I'd again go with the Autumn Gold. |

I read through alot of these posts and i can clear up some info for you all. The blue chevy van is actually custom as well because chevy didnt make a sliding door van that year. It was grafted in for the movie.alot of the vehicles in the film were built by Horinek body and paint newkirk oklahoma. -- Last edit: 2019-09-07 04:10:37 |

There were 4 built for the movie. My friend currently has the '82 from the shoot. It was number 2. There is a stamped 2 on the front bumper. We take it to Wakita every year for the anniversary parade. The other survivor is in the Star Cars Museum in Gatlinburg TN. http://www.starcarstn.com/Twister.html Unfortunately, their information is incorrect about theirs being the last survivor. We are planning a trip there in November to see what number is on that bumper. |

They couldnt get out of the Ditch. Thats why Bill said he "Cant get any Extra Speed" |
◊ 2020-01-31 23:04 |
That would have Defeated the Product Placement Purpose |

There was no J30. It was the Gladiator & J3000, 1972-1988 It was the J1000/J2000 then the J10/J20. The J3000 was gone after 1971 |
◊ 2021-09-22 05:38 |
I would like to Scratchbuild one in the same Scale myself.... Based on the Photos I've been able to find in Google Images, I'll probably just go with Tamiya X-8 Lemon Yellow Acrylic :-) |
◊ 2024-02-19 21:32 |
Hi! I’m working on a 1/24 scale model myself, and I mainly use enamel paints… I wanted to ask is there any way I can find the “Autumn Gold” color as an enamel? |
