Lucas Racing Services suggests something UK. My guess is a coach conversion from something like a Duple Vega. It's probably identifiable from the Lucas link by someone who knows what to look for. |

same LUCAS who had jokes about it like " why to the Brits drink their bear warm ??, because they have Lucas refrigirators" -- Last edit: 2013-05-23 00:33:05 |

I've never drunk a bear - hot, cold or warm - apparently the fur gets caught in your throat. |

What? You're missing out, bears are quite delicious once you get used to the fur. |

It looks more likely to me that it was built on a truck chassis by the high steering column compared to the low windscreen. High chassis/floor also seen at the rear. The raised section of the roof form looks similar to Marshall (or possibly Willowbrook) municipal bodies. As a best guess if it dates from about 1968-69, 1967 Commer CC, 4-Ton on 16" wheels. Lucas had used a Karrier chassis in the same situation, as seen in 'Checkpoint', but by 1970 there were no 16" wheels on the Gamecock W-series I believe. It has some similarity to an earlier Commer CA BBC Outside Broadcast Truck by Marshall also here. Its unlikely to be a Bedford TK without an engine access flap in the sides. Remains 'unknown' until it possibly is seen again with a better view of the front or a registration number. -- Last edit: 2020-06-17 11:55:55 |
