Plymouth Gran Fury or Chrysler Newport. |

The tailights seem to be consistent with those of a Gran Fury, making this a 1980-1981 model. |

Chrome strip on taillights indicate 1979-1981 Chrysler Newport. |

HPD used the 1979-81 Chrysler Newport and Gran Fury during the early 1980s (along with some 1977-79 Ford LTD IIs) where the M-body was phased in around 1982/83 - the HPD 'racing stripe' livery was not used on these R-body squads (it was introduced in 1983 on the Ford Crown Victoria and remaindered Gran Fury squads (ordered in late 1982 prior to the Blue Oval transition) when HPD transitioned back to the Blue Oval; the department switched over to the Caprice in 1988 until B-body production ended in 1996. Since late 1996, Houston Police has used the Crown Vic (both the aero Vic and 98-11) and a few Impala squads (the 1999-2011 squads were the white car with blue letters until 2012 when 100 final Vics were painted in the current black and white livery (LAPD colors) - current vehicles used include the following - Chevrolet Tahoe 9C1, Ford Police Interceptor (both sedan and utility), Dodge Charger, and 2012 Chevrolet Caprice (only a few ordered). |
