valiant1962 ◊ 2009-03-03 21:59	1980 was "The Rock" incident pictured in the thumbnail (Tru-Blu 1). 1981 he started the race with a new car (Tru-Blu 2) that was funded by donations from Ford and the general public due to the 1980 Rock incidient. The 1981 race was cut short due to massive pile up blocking the circuit at the top of the mountain, Johnson was leading and declared winner. In a show of goodwill no other teams in the race objected to the replacement #17 car starting the race from 10th position." says wiki. But he retired after 61 laps anyway - co-driver in race was Kevin "Camaro smasher" Bartlett. Bits of this sequence repeated several times during film.
