Our first car was a 1933 Lanchester 10, u.k.registration no. TJ 893. We bought it about 1959 for £40, ran it for about two years and sold it for £20. I hand painted it black and ivory with "Valspar" enamel. The car had many modern features like a pre-selector gearbox with a fluid flywheel coupling, hyraulic brakes,an overhead valve engine with cast aluminium alloy sump and rocker box cover. My wife and I have many happy memories of the car and we wish that we still had it to-day!. We were just watching an episode of Agatha Christie's "Poirot" entitled "The Mystery of Hunters Lodge" when we spotted a similar model in a couple of shots..................Wonderfull!!. |

Southworthdt5, I do not believe it!!!!!!!!!!!! TJ893 was my late father's first car, bought in 1956. I imagine that when you bought it, the chassis plate was missing, as to this day it sits in my office! |

Engine c.c. for this car should read 1,203c.c., the 1,287 being the post-war Lanchester ten engine. |

Southworthdt5, Having checked, Father bought TJ893 in 12/56, and sold it on 28/2/58. The car, chassis no. 18329, was first registered 30/3/33. |

daimlere20 I have just read your posts from March this year. I probably bought TJ 893 from your father. I was living near Warrington at the time and went out to somewhere on the Cheshire side to collect it. I have tried without success to add a photograph but if you e mail me on p.atherton2@btinternet.com I will attach one to my reply. |

I think I have followed your instruction and my print appears to have been taken into store. I have typed the code that appeared at the start of this comment.....fingers crossed the photo will reappear ! p.s. TJ 893 was first registered in March 1933 and I was born in August of that year. I hand painted the car with "Valspar" enamel......Black and Ivory. The seats were done with Red leather paint. The fuel pump was converted I think, it was an SU electric pump mounted on the scuttle near the battery box. We did one or two trips from Culcheth, Lancs ( now Cheshire ) to Portland in Dorset before the motorways were there. Happy days.....We sold her for £20 to some boys at work and before long a conrod broke and came through the crankcase. (known as a leg out of bed ). What a sad end. We moved on to AGE 804, a 1937 Armstrong Siddley 14, but that's another story. -- Last edit: 2014-12-05 22:08:22 |
