Young James T. Kirk takes his stepfather's "antique" Corvette for a joyride. -- Last edit: 2010-11-03 01:03:27 (G-MANN) |

Yes, it's a 60s Corvette C2. A bored, adolescent Jim Kirk has "borrowed" this antique from a relative to go speeding through the Iowa farmland, as he's being chased by a cop on a Star-Wars type speeder. |

With the value of C2 Corvettes nowadays being $73,000 and up, I wouldn't be suprised if they used CG. -- Last edit: 2010-11-03 00:55:13 (G-MANN) |

What a waste of a good Corvette (in the movie I mean). |

It was a great idea to have the young James Tiberius Kirk in a classic vehicle that is as iconic as the space vehicle he would one day command...It would be interesting to me (a huge fan of classic Corvettes) to know if JJ Abrams himself or someone involved in the movie suggested this particular kind of car for this scene...I once owned a silver version of this very car, and thus, this scene was among the most thrilling in the movie for me... |

Since when does Iowa have a CANYON in it? |

Since the 22th century |

Guys, relax. It's a CG 'Vette. J.J. Abrams wouldn't destroy such a classic car. |

Any quarries in Iowa? |

I'm sure there is, but the quarry where they filmed this scene is actually in Vermont. However, it was edited with CGI to make it look more like a canyon in a desert. Since there aren't any canyons in Iowa, I think they just wanted to add a canyon in the movie just to give the sequence more character. -- Last edit: 2017-11-08 19:12:49 |

What's this car even running on? At the time the movie is set, all crude oil is undoubtedly gone. |

that car is almost 293 years old |
