So late? In Finland the first Datsun (also the first Japanese car) was imported in 1962, Bluebird 1200.

Actually early Japanese-imported motor vehicles in Italy were bikes(Suzuki and Honda the former Brands availables)then arrive also cars from Rising Sun(and former Brands were just Datsun,followed by Toyota and Mazda)

Some of these Brands were imported later,'cause would exist a law in Italy that limitates amounts of imports of motor vehicles by Japan(really must serve only to favourite the sales of Italian motor vehicles),a "national sales protective law"existing since Fifties'--that don't allow none imported vehicle from Japan--,slightly modified into Seventies'--when was allowed to import less of 1000 Japanese motor vehicles per annum,shared thru the Importers of the various Japanese Brands--and erased into Nineties'--in times of global market--;that explain why Italians had known Makes like Mitsubishi,Subaru or Isuzu too much years later;some Brands,then,were advantaged 'cause they were present already in Italy thru other products with same Brand,e.g. Honda and Suzuki(well known already for their bikes here since '60s end);

Italy have known too much late also other kinds of Jap motor vehicles,like vans,midsize trucks(Italy don't have would import,meanwhile,heavyweight trucks from Japan never,maybe'cause Italian truckers likes to buy and drive national Brands still,for that truck category),road machines,farm machines,forklifts,etc.

Ah,had forgotten to say that Datsun 1200 imported in Italy were all 4-doors Sedan version and the car would compete on Italian market together with Fiat 128 and Alfasud Berlina
