Thanks. About the year I don't know what to write. Really it's a 1956 production like this pretty one /vehicle_50298-Mercedes-Benz-220-S-W180-1956.html but the spanish plate is from february 1961. British fellows of the site, usign DVLA, write date of matriculation, so I don't know what to use here because in 1960 the Mercedes 220 S were completely differents. Maybe some comments could help me. |

Spanish real plate from february 1961 |

Cómo averiguas el año de las matrículas? |

In 1961 this model was no longer available (in August 1959 it was replaced by the [W111]), so probably it has been imported as second hand car in 1961 (or the plate is not the original one). |

and by the small grille its a pre-1958-model |

We use such info only when it is possible that it is the real plate. If the car can't be 1961, then we ignore the plate info |

@ Ingo: I'm not sure there was the distinction between 'Schmalküler' and 'Breitkühler' for the 6-cylinder models as well... I think these wider grilles were only on the 180/190. |

-- Last edit: 2009-01-22 15:50:02 |

@all spaniard users and info for all: descargad desde http://www.limix.net/ el programa limix matrículas 1.6.1. ¡Funciona! Saludos. If you get a spanish plate in a movie and the year(s) of its plot is the same than the production year of that movie, probably the plate was real and not a fake. In this case you can download the program "limix matriculas 1.6.1" from here http://www.limix.net . 3 Options: A)from 1900 to 1971: One letter (province abbreviation)+ (until 6 numbers) B)from 1971 to 2000: One letter (province abbreviation)+ 4 numbers + 2 letters C)from 2000 until now: EU system. 4 letters + 3 numbers Good luck -- Last edit: 2009-01-22 21:01:00 |

All 219/220/220 S Ponton 6 cyl had the same grille. Only 180/190 changed it twice. This model seems to be one of the latest with plate lights in the shock struts(57/58/59). The previous models had it placed in the trunk cover. |

The year of the plate is doesn't really matter because until the 80's it was very difficult to buy foreign cars in Spain. Is this the one they called Mercedes Lola Flores? |
◊ 2009-01-23 13:38 |
Lola Flores was a "typical" (how I hate this) spanish "flamenco" singer-dancer. You know, claping in time palms and heels. As the noise is like tac-tac-tac-tac-tac- people in the '50s. say Mercedes 'Lola Flores' to Diesel versions and specifically to Mercedes-Benz 170 (diesel) like this pretty one -- Last edit: 2009-01-23 13:46:49 |

The Mercedes Diesels got several nicknames. In Brazil, they were called pipoqueiras (popcorn makers). For me it is very important to trace, as precise as possible, the year of the model. Otherwise, who will care for that? There are many blogs and sites everywhere which the year is neglected, but I found this one is the correct place to search for it, as well for curiosities such as Lola Flores and Pipoqueiras.. |
