This is a 1957 Thunderbird |

I would have said a 1956 (spare tire not in the trunk, well above the rear bumper). See http://ctci.org/history/tbird.htm |

Doesn't it get more stars since it's the lead character's car? |

In 1957 Ford did move the spare tire to the trunk...but still had the option for the continental kit on the back end as well. Dan Tanna's car was a '57 Thunderbird....not a '56. The car and year is mentioned frequently in many of the episodes, too. I think the spare on the back for that time period is more sporty looking anyway, than having it in the trunk. |

Yes...this car should have the most stars, since it is the lead character's car throughout the whole show! The 57 T-bird was almost as big a star of "Vega$," as Robert Urich was! -- Last edit: 2008-03-01 19:47:22 |

For another picture of this exact same car, but a different color, go to the movie "Breathless." After "Vega$" was cancelled the red '57 Thunderbirds were painted aqua to be used in "Breathless" with Richard Gere! |

You can now enjoy Dan Tanna's crime-fighting/tire-squealing adventures, in his awesome red 57 T-Bird and amongst the bright lights and casino glitz of Las Vegas again, as on October 20, 2009 "Vega$" Season 1 Volume 1 was released on DVD!! This includes the original "Pilot" TV Movie (which aired earlier than when the series started)! Tanna's first car was a yellow 63 (or therabouts) Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. It was blown up part way into the "Pilot" TV Movie and then he acquired his trademark red 57 Thunderbird! -- Last edit: 2009-10-24 04:40:32 |

Vilero and T-BirdLover, I LOVE "Vega$" and not only have the first season volume 1 on DVD (the first official DVD release of the show) but also the complete series on DVD!! The complete series set is not an official release but syndicated episodes from the cable network fx--from the mid 1990's. But, the picture and sound quality is almost official quality! Those new pics of the T-Bird and Robert Urich (Dan Tanna) and the info bits to go with them are superb!!! Thanks so much for them. If there are any more, please post them here! tv boy is correct...this is a five star vehicle!! P.S. I'm watching "Vega$" as I'm typing this! -- Last edit: 2009-11-07 09:21:27 |

And if I do find a pic online, I only know how to post the link...how do you get pics to actually show up here? If anyone (T-BirdLover??) has anymore pics of the Tanna T-Bird or his Vette from the first part of the "Pilot", etc...then pleae post them! |

I am the proud owner of 1 of the 2 cars used in the production of this TV show. It is true that the cars were used in the movie "Breathless" painted aqua. The cars were originally scheduled to be destroyed in a crash scene in that movie, and were replaced by a Porsche (after some considerable lobbying by my father and his business partner who purchased these cars from Aaron Spelling Productions. The car I own is the show car, used for close up shots. It is exactly as it was when it came from the show, right down to the lot stickers on the bumpers. On another occasion I would be happy to share stories and photos, as it is late. |

Good to know it's still around, and wasn't destroyed. I added you to the list of owned movie cars on the forum. |

vega$birdowner, I was in contact with you about ten years ago and lost your email address when a computer I had crashed. I had talked to you at length and your dad about the car. Could you please send me an email? I'd like to reconnect and update you, i finally got my own bird although not as famous as yours. Thanks delattig@cbs.com |

It could be a while before vega$birdowner sees this. Maybe ask the site owner contact@imcdb.org for the e-mail address he registered with... -- Last edit: 2013-02-03 23:56:51 |

I had a client who came to us with their 57 TBird recently, which was purchased in Vegas in the 80's. They claimed that they purchased it from a person stating it was one of the cars in the show. So if vega$birdowner is saying there were only two cars made, and they both ended up being painted Aqua? I doubt my clients car is one of the originals. This is a Red/Black Interior car. Looks like the cars used in the show were Red/White Interior. If anyone can confirm the actual cars made for the show would be so helpful. The car was purchased, as mentioned in Vegas, then brought to California. It has been sitting under a cover (husband passed away) and was last registered in 1992. It's still in great shape and at this point a good barn or garage find and the client is trying to figure out whether to restore it or not. Thanks folks. Jason |

RockinLCustoms: As far as I know the only two birds used went to Vegasbird owner and his father. I know they sold one of the cars (the stunt car) in auction. If the car you are talking about has a dodge engine with modifications to the shifter then perhaps the car you mention is a Vega$ car. I seem to remember the stunt car had a black and white seat with black dash. (It had been a white car they painted red) If not, I remember several close cigar replicas in the 90's, one was used in the mall extension opening (parked out front) and another was in a hotel but they were not the cars although they were advertised as such. Does your friends car have the continental kit? |

The Ford Thunderbird is like the Chevrolet Corvette, a luxury two seater sports car of the 1950s. |
