Found a clip of the chase involving the truck (CCF will really enjoy it)

These old Ford’s were practically bulletproof; they were built heavy with robust parts and used thick steel/metal.

I agree. I think the word of the Ford Motor Company ought to trump the grille.

I remember that commercial; only one problem: Watch the chase - at 3:16 you can see both front wheels have been replaced. Something must have broken somewhere.

No, it is a 1968. The grille in 1969, had a groove stamped into the horizontal bar. The grille on Majestyk's truck does not have the groove, the bar extends out (convex). More significant is that in 1969, side AND rear reflectors were required with the rear reflectors located below the taillights. In 1968, ONLY side reflectors were required. Majestyk's truck clearly has only side reflectors. From these two differences it would have to be a 1968.

Both 1968/69 do have front and rear side retroreflectors as shown here.

According to the Wagner book, the thick central horizontal seems to be convex version on the 1969 model year, but I can't tell from the 1968 version :/

Does anyone have the official 1968 and 1969 Ford F-Series truck brochure that we can verify this discrepancy :??:

It does seem like there are a lot of 1969s without a groove.

The 1968s had the grille sections blacked out and the 1969s didn't. Since Majestyk's grille sections aren't blacked out, I suppose we have to say it is a 1969.

See the vertical bars in the 1968 grille are black. You can see it in both my flickr pictures and the Fordification pictures. But this pertains to chrome grilles and not necessarily painted grilles.

Fordification:

1967
Three trim levels (base, Custom Cab and Ranger) were offered. The Ranger had color-keyed carpeting and door panels and plusher seats (in a cab that was 3 inches wider inside than it's predecessor) and chrome exterior trim (such as the grille) standard.

1968
The grille got a new look. To comply with Federal safety standards, reflectors were added to the hood emblems and the rear of the bed.
(The grille shown here is the optional Ranger version. The grille emblem was only used in '68-'69)

1969
The grille was the same as 1968 except that a groove was stamped on the center horizontal bar. Corinthian White was used for the standard grille which changed again midyear to anodized, and on Ranger models the groove in the aluminum grille was painted red. The headlight surrounds were painted black in the center and included the grille emblem, which was the last year this grille emblem was used.

So the 1969 grilles may not have had a groove unless they were aluminum grilles. So, standard 1968 painted grilles and standard 1969 painted grilles may have been the same, and 1968s and 1969s had the same side maker lights, thus making Majestyk’s pickup impossible to distinguish between a 1968 and 1969 except for the word of its maker the Ford Motor Company.

It appears that there are at least two trucks used. Some scenes show a blue steering wheel and some show a black steering wheel.
