Mini (as make) 1275 GT. "The Clubman's finest hour came in 1978 and 1979 when a 1275GT driven by Richard Longman won the British Touring car championship. He had learnt his trade at the legendary tuning company Downton Engineering in the 1960s. In 1971 he set up Longman & Company in partnership with other Downton refugees Steve Harris and George Toth. In 1978 with financial backing from car dealers Patrick Motors, Longman & Co entered and prepared 1275GTs to be driven by Richard Longman and Alan Curnow. Richard took 10 class wins in 12 races to secure the BTCC title. The following year saw the 1275GTs having a clean sweep, with Longman taking 10 wins and Alan Curnow the other two. Longman won the championship and the pair took the team prize." from http://www.aronline.co.uk/index.htm?ado15ado20f.htm . |
