It seems to have its original British plate under its US one. But what is the strange chrome tv aerial-like device on the front? |

I think this is some sort of bumper locator from the driver point of view. |

TCs imported officially in the USA were fitted with a front bumper. This one is clearly a personal import, and the device seems to be at once a badge bar and limited protection against American bumpers. |

Only a few hundred of the 10000 TCs were built specifically for the USA market (so-called "exu" models), and they had a special front and rear bumper set, not unlike the later TD or TF. Also had twin taillights and turn signals (standard TCs did not). There were a lot of alternative "bumper" arrangements available in the aftermarket for the 2000-3000 standard TCs that came here. Note that this car also has a horn on the front bar (that chrome thing with a black center). The exu cars didn't have that, rather had twin horns under the bonnet. This is a "standard" TC with aftermarket antenna-bumpers and headlamps. |
