You are right, a MÁVAG product indeed, built between 1939 and 1942, its nickname was 'Harcsa' ('catfish'). The caption on the site you linked in says that in 1942, due to the wartime shortage of rubber, all of these vehicles were modified into rail buses ('sín' = 'rail'). I think it might be listed as 1942 MÁVAG N 2h sínautóbusz ('Harcsa'). |

Sorry, reading that caption again, and having checked a few other sites dedicated to the history of bus manufacturing in Hungary, I'd change the model name to N-2h/40 (or, carefully, N-2h/unknown). As I just learned, the plain N-2h designation belongs to older series. There were also older known just as N2 I think. Now thanks to the links which you posted I see that some N26 were known as N26/36 - I though that there were two models with the same design - N26 and N36 (different by the engines or length). .gif ";)") It is just my guess that the second number can indicate the year(?!) - it fits to the N26/38 - which with this body was introduced somwhere in the 1938/39.On this site we have also an other busses (so the one already listed is not NAG but MAVAG-NAG) - good find! -- Last edit: 2008-11-11 20:24:15 |
