Walt Kowalski (Clint Eastwood) is driving it, also seen in his driveway.

Maybe somebody can tell me, but is this the same truck?

If so, we can narrow the thing down to between 1970 and 1972. Maybe even 1970 itself.

I'm pretty sure it's a 1972 F series. All 70-72's have the same aluminum grille shell but the 1970 grille is more like a mesh on the inside than the pockets used in 71 and 72. '71 trucks had 6 pockets on each side and '72 trucks had 4 pockets on each side.

Right, I know this all too well. But the problem here is that I can't see the grille pattern on this truck, because it's pitch black.

Another problem is, I'm not 100% sure this is Clint's character's truck. I didn't see the movie yet, so considering how few of them are still around I can only assume it's his.

i think it should only have 5 stars and the torino should have 3 stars because the torino only gets driven once in the last scene for just a minute while the ford truck is driven multiple times!!!

Four stars is enough for this truck.

I had the pleasure of seeing this truck in person.
Once, while Clint Eastwood was filming a scene in Royal Oak, Michigan:

And once, when I tracked down the owner, Don, here in Michigan:

I saw the movie last night. I think this is light enough to list this as 1972 Ford F-100.

The story behind this Truck:
I work on Films/TV/Movies. I drove down to Birmingham Michigan to apply to work as Background on Gran Torino. When I got there they asked me how tall I was, I replied 6-0. The girl said too bad, you could be Clint's "Stand In", but he is much taller. Then, after filling out the forms, they asked us if we had any vehicles with "Character"(dents/rust/duct tape)? I said I have this old white short-bed truck you gotta see. They came with a camera and took pictures from all sides and said to me they wanted to use the truck. It would be $1200 per week, and they could modify any way they want, but would put it back when done. They gave me a phone number, and said they would call me on the following Monday. Monday came, and they never called. Tuesday, came and they never called, so I called them on Wednesday. They put me through to a voicemail that was full(Hollywood brush-off). When the Friday edition of the "Detroit Free Press" came out, the cover showed Clint getting into a truck just like mine(but not mine). The "Vehicles Manager" substituted another vehicle, and painted it with Rust/Dents just like mine, and scarfed the Money for himself. It's OK, the guy(young)died 5 years ago under "undisclosed" circumstances. The whole affair also kept me from working as "Background" on the Film. All my friends worked on it.
Anyway, I still have that old truck(all though the floor boards are gone now). It still runs great. They painted Faux rust on the Minty truck they used in the film, exactly like the rust I had on my truck. The weird black stripes on the front are to emulate the bent parts of my truck where I earlier rear-ended a Toyota Highlander and bent the front bumper in, along with the front fender bottoms. I fixed the bumper, but the fenders were still bent-in, on the day they took the pic. It does have character.
Now you know, the rest of the story.
P.S. Clint still owes me $1200!
