If this scene was from Bolivia, it would be a Mecican made 181. A hardtop was an extremely rare extra, available only in America. But it doesn't look like "that" legendary hardtop (legendary for 181-freaks), it looks more lie a homemade(?) fixed roof. I have to ask some 181-fans for details. |

It's a total different hardtop than that one, I've seen in 1993 at a VW-scrapyard in Alamogordo/New Mexico: This was an aftersales market extra option, as I've heard from Thing/Kübel-freaks. But except my photo they don't have anything more about it. |

It seems to me it is a mexican made Safari due to the red/yellow small rear lights (1971-1973) and 14" wheels (1972-1980). Even when a fiber glass top was available from the factory in Mexico, the one in the movie is for sure not original. |
