I think this is an SS Jaguar 1½ litre, introduced 1936. Note it has four suicide doors. |

Yes. At the time SS was the make, Jaguar the model: it was only after the war that Jaguar became the make, for obvious reasons. |

SS stood for Swallow Sidecars the company which William Lyons founded to build motorcycle sidecars. The sidecar business was sold when Lyons started building motor cars. |

I just defaulted to the smallest one ... and besides the grille and bonnet look rather small, and IIRC the 1½ litre was smaller than the 2½ or 3½ litres. |
