An XA Falcon, and as far as I know, it was an ex-taxi (hence the chronic smoke!) |

Hey, this is weird. It says "Interceptor" on this car when it should be "Pursuit". Max has the Interceptor. |

Max had a Pursuit Special |

The Nightrider had the aforementioned 'Persuit Special' quoted as 'running on Methane, superhot!.' MFP cars came in two designations, Interceptors and Persuits. The black interceptor was a one-off. |

To clarify, all the yellow 4-doors were called "Interceptors" in the film. The 2-doors (both the blue Monaro and Max's black Falcon XB GT) were specifically stated in the film to be "Pursuit Specials". It's years later that fans started INCORRECTLY calling Max's black coupe an "Interceptor" because it just sounded cooler. Even the 1:18 scale diecast replica released almost 2 years ago of the XB as seen in Mad Max 2 (Road Warrior) was called Interceptor on the box. It's just a generally accepted term nowadays, but purists and accuracy freaks like myself call it what the police in the film called it- a "Pursuit Special". |

I have to point out a slight disagrement with jwramic. Not all the yellow cars were refered to as Interceptors. Roop and Charlie drive the unit radio callsign "Big Bopper", which has "Pursuit" on the back. The term "Pursuit" and "Interceptor" are confusing. I think the term "Pursuit Special" could mean an unmarked or low-vis marked "Pursuit" car. Yeah... this isn't as cool as thinking it only refers to the fire-breathing super-car like Max's black Pursuit Special. But as far as a real-world police agency, I think it makes sense. And in the context of the movie, the dark blue Holden Pursuit Special that the Nightrider steals at the beginning is clearly modified, but seems not as heavily modified as Max's black Pursuit Special. That is... unless we stretch the imagination and say that the dark blue Holden Pursuit Special was SUPPOSED to have that rocket-assisted acceleration (which we see in the crash) as an in-the-movie-reality feature designed to be used by the MFP. -- Last edit: 2010-01-07 20:51:47 |
