Judging by this, but also other, older movies (Le Casse for example) Greece was one of the first European countries which started to import Japanese cars, of different sort, in quite big numbers. Something what I wouldn't expect from the South European country.

Finland and Norway were the first European countries where Japanese cars were marketed. Greece was also one of the first countries used as a "test" market. When I visited Crete in 2001 I saw several of these old Mazda Bongo's still on the road. Greek islands are ideal destination for car freaks ;) Abandoned cars are plenty. I got the impression they don't scrap cars in large numbers because almost every house had one or two dusty cars laying in backyard. I must visit that island again. I remember entering from the airport to a tourist bus. The first thing I noticed was three or four Citroen GS's on the street! Incredible. Sorry for my off-topic.

In what years it was?

Though I'm not so big fan of these small vans, I guess it was indeed interesting to see so many of them in XXI century still in use, especially that seems they were common only in a few Europen countries, and in many nearly unknown. :D

In Finland in 1962 a brave decision was made to import 700 Datsun Bluebirds. A year or two earlier few examples of Datsun's were imported to Norway but first major sales of Japanese cars happened in Finland. After Datsun followed Isuzu and Prince in 1965, Toyota in 1966, Mazda in 1967 etc. Even few Hino Contessa's were imported.
