So https://checkhistory.uk/vehicle/MVS315 is actually correct as a 1952 Daimler? |

Yes. 1952 (introduced into service) Daimler Ferret, fitted with a straight six engine very similar to that fitted in my Bentley. First owner, the British Army, presumably. The owner says this vehicle is 1963. -- Last edit: 2024-07-03 12:29:09 |

Ah. I was thrown off by Instant Car Check which lists this with a "saloon" body type and that's not what I think of when I see one of these. ![]() |

Try looking at this: - http://daimler-fighting-vehicles.co.uk/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferret_armoured_car https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fox_armoured_reconnaissance_vehicle And, especially this, the exact vehicle if the Army registration plate is to be believed. https://www.keymilitary.com/article/desert-scout -- Last edit: 2024-07-03 12:24:02 |

Lateef: This is the owner’s description, from the fourth reference:- “Make Daimler Model FV704. Car, scout, 4x4, reconnaissance, Ferret, Mk1/2 Nationality United Kingdom Year Built 1960 Date in Service July 1963” I entered this as a Mk1/2 in accordance with his words. Why have you changed it back to Mk1? Please remove your change, or agree to accept my reverting to what I entered. |

Because this is how we list them on the site. We use the Mk field, not the extra info field. Essentially the Mk1/2 is a later retrofit and the Mk field isn't sensitive to this. I'd be happy to reinstate "Mk1/2" in extra info on the condition that the MkI remains in the Mk field. Here's a comprehensive list of the different versions. The main difference between the Mk1 and Mk2 is that the Mk1 doesn't have a turret and the Mk2 uses the turret from the Saracen. |

I worked for the company that made the Saracen, and later was the design authority for the Daimler vehicles. |
