For years I have wondered what this car was |

From 1968 on the T-Bird got fatter, heavier and uglier (and even gained 2 more doors). Not since 1957 was it anything like a sports car. The Buick Riviera was its main competition after 1962. This one (1970) is more akin to a Lincoln Continental Mk IV than it is to the car Richie Valens drove. And as I recall none of the mid-'60s ones had console shift (and of course all were automatic after about 1959). They would have the console, but only for ash trays, and a column-mounted gear lever and the inane swing-away steering column to enable large-sized people (and women) to exit the car with some dignity. |
