Probably the most infamous of the killings in the Melbourne Gangland War. Jason Moran http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Moran and Pat Barbaro were both shot while sitting in the van at a local park watching Moran's children play football. I have the Leadbelly book and one of the photos shows Pat Barbaro's body sitting in the front passenger seat of the van with his blood and matter splattered on the passenger side window, the photo also shows that van that they were killed in was a pale blue Mitsubishi Van. At Carl William's trial, the hitman, Victor "The Runner" Brincat said that Carl offered him $100,000 for the hit, but after the murders, Carl only paid the hitman $2,500. They also used the bit where the Running Man shoots Jason and Pat in the crime documentary, "CI Australia: Families of Crime" and it was in the news this week that his cousin also named Pat had been shot and killed by an unknown gunman in Sydney. According to the documentary, "Dead Famous", two weeks before the murders, former enforcer and author, Mark "Chopper" Read had met Jason Moran and warned him to settle down before he could become a victim of the Gangland War. Since the murders occurred in daylight in the presence of children, it was seen as "low point" in the Gangland War as they had violated Melbourne's Criminal Underworld's "Unwritten Laws" that prohibited violence committed against criminals in the presence of women and children. -- Last edit: 2024-11-16 13:12:13 |
