Could it be a Meteor from Canada? Too few letters on the hood for Mercury. ![]() |

I actually based my guess on the hood. In 1957, it only extended to the middle of the headlights at the front (like it does here), but in 1958 it extended down to the bottom of the headlights. A quick image search for "1957 Mercury" returns both single and double headlight cars. In my opinion, this one looks like it has double headlights on either side. According to a post here (/vehicle_60264-Mercury-Monterey-1957.html), the double headlights were standard on the Turnpike Cruiser and optional on all other Mercury models in 1957. |

It looked to me that we are seeing the reflections of the single lamps on the bezels, but I trust your judgment. There were some 38 states that did not permit use of quad headlamps until calendar year 1958. The letters on the hood don't seem to match up, can you help me understand this? |

If it was a Canadian car, it would be a Monarch, not a Meteor who were Ford based. There are seven letters on the hood, since there is one (the C) just in the middle. You just don't see the M which is hidden by the protruding headlight (I think there are single headlights. The double were smaller, lower under the brow and more protruding). It's a Monterey or a Montclair, not a Turnpike Cruiser. |

Okay call it a '57 Mercury then, since the two lower series convertibles were built in similar numbers and we don't see enough to judge the wheelbase. Thank you. |

All 1957 Mercurys rode on the same 122 inch wheelbase anyway. |
