Zastava Yugo 311 for a 1985 film. |

Equally unhelpful view from the other direction (parked on the right):![]() I wouldn't normally list a backgroundmobile with such meager visibility, but this shape and form will forever scream a Zastava 101 to me (even when it's not) as we owned one for most of the 80's. Quite what this "car" is doing in London is beyond me. |

They were sold here, the British car buyer has always been partial to a cheap way into a car on a new plate. See also Lada, Proton, FSO... One of my school teachers had a couple of Yugos. A later version of this shape (in a tomato colour with alloy wheels) and a 45. |

Name quickly became just Yugo 311. They were laughed at here as cheap foreign grot for folk who couldn't afford a real car, but I thought that was sad as a Fiat 128 hatchback should have been an interesting prospect. Maybe like UK 128s they simply rusted away after 6 months .. |

Yes, I remember the word on the street around here that early generations of Zastava 101 weren't bad at all. Ours, which was MY about 1980 or so, was apparently one of the last of the better ones and lasted into the early 1990s, most of that time with burned brakes. At one time it made it to Frankfurt and back. Did a lot of mileage, and was a fairly sturdy little car. Later generations, though, especially when they became Yugo Koral or something of that sort, were about as reputable as the bubonic plague. -- Last edit: 2023-09-10 00:14:36 |
