Toyopet Crown 1900 Deluxe (1960-62) |

Should we list it under Toyopet rather than Toyota, by the way? And what about the few cars listed on the site as "Toyota Toyopet" ? |

This picture's Crown 1900 has 'TOYOPET' 7-letter on the hood. From mid 1950's to 1970's, 'Toyopet' car was exported actually, and from 1947 to mid'70's, Toyopet car was sold in domestic market. Toyota names them not 'Toyota Toyopet Crown' but 'Toyopet Crown' only. So correct name is 1960_Toyopet_Crown in this case. And some of listed 'Toyota_Toyopet' cars are same. If changes needed their name into 'Toyopet' from 'Toyota', I'll put the comment each needed car. (please give me time to investigate ) |

Info about Toyopet 'Toyopet' name began 1947 and disappeared Gradually 1970's. This name is used mainly for domestic compact passeenger car, and some was exported under Toyopet name. But there is confusion also inside Toyota. For example, 700cc small car 'Publica'(1961) is 'Toyota Pablica' and Corolla is same. In US, they joked it 'Toy pet'. I suppose this is the reason why Toyota erased the name of Toyopet. |

Thanks for the info In French the name is not really nice too, since "pet" (with all leter pronounced) is the word that children use for "ass". The other meaning (pronounced without the ending "t", but still written the same) is "fart" |

What a vulgar Toyopet! In Japanese, the name that sounds strange exist too. Citroen Xantia and Xsara : Pronunciation of 'Xa' and 'Xe' sounds 'nasty' Lancia Kappa : fictitious creature who lives in rivers Fiat Tempra : A familiar Japanese-food (sushi, tempura, sukiyaki ) -- Last edit: 2006-01-14 13:25:45 |

In Québec, the word "pet" also means fart but the "t" is pronounced. |

When I was a boy (10 years old), my Dad bought a 1960 Toyopet Crown Deluxe, the color was Pacific Blue. It had a 3 forward finger tip (selector) standard gear box with a centrifugal operated over drive. I'm looking to buy one, would anyone know if there is a Toyopet Crown Deluxe out there for sale? -- Last edit: 2007-09-15 21:34:15 |

There's a Honda 360 three cars behind the Ford Taunus on the left, and a Fiat 1100 parked on the right (two tone paint). |
