Location is Denham village, Buckinghamshire - compare - a location often used because it was pretty and close to Pinewood studios.

The thing is never in focus, so the plate is blurry even at 2160p, but maybe someone can figure out the logo:

Looks like Foden logo.

Certainly does, but imho, there isn’t much further to be said. There might be a Gardner in there, it’s possibly 7.5 tons, but guesswork is involved.

Being in a recent production, it shouldn't be too hard to find.

Foden DG 4 7½-ton would be my best guess also. Pre-war (1937?) or more likely after 1945.

I could not find the exact vehicle but it has similarities with this "Billy Smart" Circus Foden DG6/15 truck Link to "www.flickr.com" So probably had a similar use or even a smaller vehicle from the same fleet?

Here's a promotional still with a partial closeup, but I'm not sure it's helpful: Link to "www.alamy.com"

Registration looks like 'MCG ?52' (1954) or possibly 'HCG ?52' (1949). The 'Foden' script is confirmed (but normally in the centre of the grille).

Nothing found for HCG registrations despite 1949 being my idea of the best fit for its age.

Similar registrations found for MCG suggest to me either a borrowed registration (MCG 452) or a series of age-related re-registrations?

MCG 452
Vehicle make FERGUSON TEF 20
Date of first registration December 2002
Year of manufacture 1954

MCG 852
Vehicle make TRIUMPH
Date of first registration October 1979
Year of manufacture 1969

Foden DG 4 7½-ton without being able to find the actual truck.

I spent some time trying to find pics of Matilda library truck and similar phrases - seems they did a dress-up truck for US promo appearances which was bigger, more angular and newer than the UK Foden, and I think your pic is that one.

^ I also googled the Matilda truck with similar results. The promotional closeup is the Foden (with a nice new mirror added) it has some rust I think on the door.

I haven't seen the movie and, unless its seen in motion, I suspect it could be a non-runner which has been re-painted and any available number-plate has been added. A square format plate is a lot less common.

It is seen in motion, but only once and only for a couple of seconds as a very blurry background mass:

It comes to an abrupt stop within a second or two, during which time the camera has closed in on the driver who is wearing the same outfit as in the promo still, so I'm going to assume it was taken from the shoot of this scene:

The scene starts at about 14:30 into the movie.

I should point out two things: I have not actually seen the movie (I can't wrap my brain around the concept of a musical no matter how hard I try), and I have reservations about having rated this truck three stars. I gravitated toward that on account of the truck being stationary at all times except that one scene mentioned in the previous comment, so it's not really used in terms of being driven, but it is used in terms of Matilda and the librarian being in, around or on it in a number of scenes. Given the importance of the books and thence the library/truck to Matilda, I suppose four stars wouldn't be out of order.

Meanwhile, I never looked properly at thumb two in my first comment, but it turns out the plate is legible there at 2160p:

RCG 851 (or 951??) gives Hampshire, Dec 56. Nothing on plate sites.
