Intrigued by this as I've no info about any UK or Aus production 100E convertibles. Some hints that UK made 3 prototypes, but nothing else known. Aus regularly chopped earlier small UK Fords, so it's no surprise if they did 100Es as well, but no references found. Early grille and pimple hubcaps, not much shiny trim.

Some comment from an old UK ad found on line (sadly no pictures still available):
"1955 Ford Anglia Convertible, owned by me for 35 yrs, it is semi-automatic Newtondrive (Manumatic). This is I believe to be one of only 3 to be made, I bought it from a 80 year old lady in 1984 in just about runable condition, I was told it was sent away when new back to Ford to have leather seats fitted, after that she and her husband went to Athens for six months where it may have been converted to a convertible but an Irish chap at the NEC told me that they were converted in Ireland. A few days later he emailed a photo of an Anglia convertible being tested on a track. I also was visited by a chap from the Abbotts register who thinks it could be one of the cars they did in the 1950s."

So a pile of intriguing rumours rather than solid facts. Anyone able to discover anything?? Is this non-factory conversion or even home-made??

Manumatic transmission and Newtondrive are not the same. I have personal experience of the Automotive Products Manumatic system on a 1957 Morris Oxford Series III, it was not good. There was also the Ferlec semi automatic system on the Renault Dauphine. On the Manumatic, taking hold of the gearlever the knob on the end moved inwards, (column change) and called a solenoid which released the clutch by allowing the manifold vacuum to open to a servo which pulled the clutch release lever in the same way as a manual clutch. You then changed gear by moving the gear-lever, when you let go the vacuum was released and the clutch gripped again. It was horrible!

Newtondrive was apparently similar, but not identical.

Anglia looks very early - small rear lights, minimal chrome - but no further forward for solving its convertiblisation. Hood looks very soft and floppy where I'd expect a proper chop to be tauter so maybe home made, but looks neatly done.

In the UK, E. D. Abbott of Farnham built estate car conversions of the Ford Consul, Zephyr and Zodiac models. They are also known to have produced a handful of Ford Anglia 100E Convertible conversions. This might be one of theirs or maybe it is a conversion by a local Australian coachbuilder.

Aus 100Es started in 1955 according to a book source - no mention of convertible. My hunch is Aus conversion, by persons unknown in unknown circumstances.
