Nice coach.

I have been cudgelling what’s left of my brain to get this. To no avail.

It’s quite small, and the body does not match all the usual suspects, an SS2 would have faux landau irons, and probably knock off wheels, and the radiator is not square-topped like any MG, Morris or Wolseley. Not a Ford or any Austin that I know of. Aero Minx, or Sunbam Talbotty thing? Or a Standard with Swallow coachwork?

For the sake of saying something, but without any confidence a small-ish Standard with Swallow body seems credible. Or perhaps similar with Avon body?? I've a book picture of a 1935 Standard (model unspecified) with Avon Wayfarer II body which seems roughly same shape for eg window outlines, but doesn't show rear. No idea if any Rootes-jewels might work.

Avons tend to have a curved boot lid with the spare wheel spaced off rather than recessed.

Try Googling Hillman Aero Minx drophead coupé.

It isn’t right but…

earlier types had wire wheels, looks to me about as close as we shall get.

Can't improve on that suggestion - everything looks right for shapes etc, although haven't found any pics showing the chrome side strip below windows. Might have been known in 1938 as Scout Airline Coupe.

I’ll post that, I think. Some kind of combined effort, so I think we deserve a Smartie each. I’ll have a blue one.

I don't really like disagreeing, when I can't give an alternative. However, as the B.S.A. Tens & Light Sixes were regarded as 'downmarket' versions of similar Lanchesters, I would be very surprised if the B.S.A. had a chrome flash to the sides. That said: we are back to coachbuilding again...

I had discounted both of the “senior” marques due to the shape of the top of the radiator. Agreed we can’t see much of it, but there is a distinct curve to it, and a corresponding curvature in the front end of the bonnet, which I thought appropriate to neither the Daimler (I did look for the flutes) nor the square shouldered Lanchester Ten. It also lacks a leather cloth roof and faux landau irons.

Unless the O.P. can dig out a front view, which might prove it to be something else completely, and, as you say due to the scarcity of other options, I am probably going to stick with this. Also out of family loyalty, my Dad had a BSA after the war, but it was one wheel and two cylinders short of a Scout.

Maybe dsl’s got something to chuck in the pot.

c. 1939 Singer 9hp Coupé? Looking at the hubs, I kept going back to Morris, which it wasn't! Then I thought of small Singers of the same era. To the internet, and I found a photograph of a 1936 Le Mans Coupe, sold by Kult Kars. Correct shape, chrome 'flash', and positioning of fuel filler, but wrong hubs. I then found a photo of a 1939 Singer 9hp Coupe, with later hubs and that looks about as close as I can find.

dsl will be waving his sporran with glee if it is! Apart from the fact that Rootes hadn’t got its claws into Singers until post WW2. I just wonder about the Le Mans disaster.

I see many matching shapes, and do wonder if the clarity of the subject picture might be improved to help.

^ Can't find your 1939 photo, but the 1936 Le Mans coupe from Kult cats "sometimes also referred to as an ‘Airline’ Coupe" looks perfect match apart from hubs and rear lights, but it's a resto for today's roads, so I wouldn't hold those against it. This pic seems totally on the button.
