Distinct skirted rear wings, single recess along the side, no bonnet trim, front wing recess flush with arches, lack of running-board, obvious non-factory 'woodie' body... To me this is rather a woodie conversion of a Ten Van [GV1].

Not arguing against Austin 12/16, but can't pin it down. The usual Austin 16 Countryman was a sub-contract to Papworth Industries in Cambridgeshire, but were 4 door, all front-hinged. Other folk did Austins about this time (A40 Devon, A70 Hampshire, 16) eg Whitacres (from Stoke in jfs territory), Frank Grounds, Jennings (of Sandbach, better known for ERF cabs), some other Papworth proposals etc, all with various permutations of converting saloons, vans or chasis cabs. But no clue who did a 2-door with suicide doors.

All these Austins of the 1939+ generation (8: 10: 12: 16) presented the same general outline, and, with the exception of the really weedy looking eight, are quite hard to call.

I did think about the 10, but thought that the subject looked too big. I then went 16 on numbers built, but it might have been better to say 12, as they were so awfully gutless that you could buy them for next to nothing in the fifties. Finally, comparing it with the Ford Anglia behind it, it just looks too big for a 10.

However, if you can find a suitable ditch…

PS to dsl, they all had suicide front doors.

Lateef wrote .... Ten Van [GV1].

Following that thought we have 2 similar, but not Woodies - here and here.

Agreed dsl, and as originally Lateef's excellent analysis..

Agreed Austin Ten Van [GV1] Estate Conversion.

The roofline was higher on the van and wider over the B pillar, also without the saloon's drip channel over the door.
