It seems to be a 1200. “G” plate is 1968/9. |

Weird one but plate is genuine. Vehicle REG WMX 14G Make TRIUMPH Model OTHER Colour BLUE Fuel Type PETROL Mfg. Year 1969 Engine Capacity 1147cc Date First Registered 03/06/1969 TAX Expired on: 01 May 1984 Problems: - after 13/60 launch in Oct 67 the only 1200 available was saloon - no UK convertible 1200 had this 12/50 grille (although some export ones did from about 1964) So if plate info is as solid as it looks, this is a chopped saloon with replaced grille. |

You could unbolt and remove a Herald Saloon roof in 10 minutes, 5 bolts iirc. I used to do it in the summer with my 13/60 saloon. Only problem was if it rained you were knackered as no hood or toneau cover! ! -- Last edit: 2022-10-11 16:52:47 |

Looking at the episode again this does appear to be a factory convertible.![]() |

Whichever way you throw the bits into the air comes up with 2 or more anomalies when they land. If it's a true 1969 convertible, it'd be a 13/60 - so you have to argue a replacement bonnet from a 12/50 (OK it's possible but odd) and that plate info on engine size is wrong. If plate date is wrong and it's a genuine but older 1200 convertible re-regd for whatever reason, the grille's wrong. It does have 65+ larger sidelights, but if the bonnet's been replaced, that's not a solid piece of evidence for the car. |

Coincidentally after an errant fishermans brake less Bedford CF van crumpled the front of my 13/60 saloon while parked on Redcar sea front I obtained a 12/50 front end for a tenner and fitted that. The previous 13/60 convertible I had sported a Vitesse Mk11 bootlid with all the badges which also caused confusion ![]() So easy to change things on these bolt together Heralds. -- Last edit: 2022-10-11 22:58:35 |
