I'm not gone crazy, but the Golf III Variant was called Yachting in Italy ![]() ![]() These were the versions we got in March 1995 brochure: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

This is a Variant. The name switched in Italy to Golf Yatchung in 1995 with the new style front grille. -- Last edit: 2022-08-20 17:44:11 |

Isn't it a trim level of some runout edition? |

Not with the pre-1996 indicator. And the Golf III Variant went all the way up to February 1999. |

I mean the Yachting trim, not the one in the pic. This is likely a GL |

I checked a bit and indeed early ones were Variant. Here some dates about the Golf III wagon in Italy: Introduced 11/1993. TDI since May 1994. The name switched to Yachting in March 1995 (the date of my brochure - note that Variant isn't mentioned anywhere). Deletion of all trims except base and Air in January 1997. End of sales in February 1998. Here the Golf has always been mainly the hatchback and the III Variant didn't sell very much, so it was axed in early 1998. The IV Variant sold much better (I think the most successful Golf Variant here). I remember seeing an article on Quattroruote in 1996 circa and the percentage of wagons for the Golf was less than 10% - to be compared with contemporary Astra (circa 80%) and Escort (circa 75%). The grille which electra225 is referring is the one well visible on the GL in the brochure picture, I think specific to Variants, to be compared with the usual one visible in main pic. Here a May 1994 price list (still called Variant): ![]() Here one from July 1996 (called Yachting): ![]() Agree about car in the show being a GL. -- Last edit: 2022-08-20 21:10:05 |
