1986 Austin Mini Mayfair, with these wheels cover. Badged Austin on the French market for MY 1986 & 1987, as seen here on the grille.
French registration from 1987, probably real, so it's a re-registration as currently seen with the old system, especially between the Parisian's departement, or a left over from the past MY.

Agreed 86+ Mayfair (also the wing indicators for date). Never knew about the 86-87 revival of Austin name for F, but would like to know more before adopting it. Was it only 86/87?? Did it happen anywhere else (eg CH, D, maybe A) which used Austin in early years of 1970+ Mk3 Mini??

My worry in this sort of situation is that we can make a specific change for this one and maybe a handful of others we can pull out, but then this little quirk gets forgotten, and the batch "disappears". It may be simpler to stay with Mini as make?? Thoughts??

You're right the story of the British Leyland is quite complicated until the end, with specificity on almost each national market, even in the EU...
I enclose you the Austin Mini page on the French Austin Rover catalogue full range : you can see the badge like here on the grille, and the branding Austin Mini in the legend > [Image: 1987-austin-mini_french-catalogue.jpg]
. It was the same for the Austin Metro...
But for the next MY, 1988 it was again Mini only... like we had since the 1970s on this market (I remind my brother's Belgian assembled 1975 Mini 1000 who was delivered new without any Austin badge).

Evidence for Austin in 86-87 accepted - there's a possible logic if they were pushing sales of Metros, Maestros and Montegos in F at the same time - so the question is more about how useful it is to use it. My hunch is to stay as we are, with this discussion as a marker that there was a short period of superficial rebranding in limited situation. If they'd wanted to emphasise the Austin-ness, the bonnet badge and maybe a marker on the boot seem missed opportunities to make the point in a clearly obvious statement.

As far as I can tell the 1970s Austin badging ended in about 1973, so the lack of Austin on your brother's 1975 Seneffe-build is what I'd expect.
